The possibility of experimental observation of the QCD instanton

  • 1. B.P. Konstantinov St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (Russian Federation)

Description

If at very high energies the cross section for instanton-induced QCD processes reaches the unitarity bound, such processes should dominate in events with large transverse energy ET>100-200 GeV and will even be observable at the Sp bar pS and Fermilab colliders. If the emission of a large number of gluons cancels no more than half the experimental suppression of the instanton amplitude, the selection of the corresponding events will not be impossible (for ET∼30 GeV) but will require special effort. 13 refs., 4 figs
