Collimation of neutron beam in experiments on measuring of partial cross sections with isotope microamounts

Description

Conic and multi-slit systems for neutron-beam collimation are examined. It is shown that in experiments which use small amounts of a substance for measurig partial neutron cross-sections, a multi-slit collimation system allows more effective use of the possibilities of the neutron source, e.g. in measuring radiation capture of neutrons with microgram amounts of isotopes. A multi-slit collimation system for a neutron beam may be used without a supplementary conic collimator if the detector is shielded from scattered neutrons. In this case the slit width may be increased, and data show that the ratio of the effect to background remains high
