Observation of fine structure in nuclear level densities and γ-ray strength functions
Description
An interactive procedure for simultaneous extraction of fine structure in the level density and the γ-ray strength function from a set of primary γ-ray spectra has been developed. Data from the reactions 163Dy(3He,αγ)162Dy and 173Yb(3He,αγ)272Yb reveals steplike enhancements in the level density in the region below 5 MeV and peaks in the γ-ray strength function at low γ-energy (Eγ ∼2 to 3.5 MeV). Tentative physical interpretations are presented. 22 refs., 4 figs
