Description
The arrangement of all PUREX-process components in remotely removable racks - so called modules - was a main feature of the Wackersdorf Reprocessing Plant. Smaller components subjected to tear and wear, e.g. valves, pumps and motors, were placed and designed for easy access and remote exchange. The racks were of standard size, and the whole module was calculated and designed to withstand earthquakes. The high-speed centrifuge for feed clarification with its 2000-g-oscillating exciter gave additional and unique problems when to be installed in such a slim and high module frame. This had to be investigated and tested. The test results were excellent and confirmed design and calculation. (author)
