Description
In recent years, environmental pollution plays an increasing role in the consideration of options available for energy production. In the context of nuclear power, environmental protection and public safety are linked to nuclear fuel cycle facilities. These pertain to the protection of occupational workers, general public and the environment. In case of any foreseen accidental situations involving radioactive material, it is important to bring the situation under control as earliest possible to protect the public, property and environment. Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) plans are prepared and kept in poised state to respond and reduce the impact of any accidental radioactive releases. India has developed the capability to respond to nuclear/radiological emergencies by developing the aerial based and land based advanced state of art radiation monitoring instruments. These systems can be deployed as and when required at the affected site, to quickly carry out radiological assessment in minimal time, to minimize the consequences of the accidental situation.
