Summary of the 5th workshop on the reduced moderation water reactor

The research on Reduced Moderation Water Reactors (RMWRs) has been performed in JAERI for the development of future innovative reactors. The workshop on the RMWRs has been held every year since fiscal 1997 aimed at information exchange between JAERI and other organizations such as universities, laboratories, utilities and vendors. The 5th workshop was held on March 8, 2002 under the joint auspices of JAERI and North Kanto branch of Atomic Energy Society of Japan. The workshop began with four lectures on status of research and development on RMWRs in JAERI entitled ''Status of Research and Development on Reduced-Moderation Water Reactors'', ''Study on Core Design for Reduced-Moderation Water Reactors'', ''Safety Analysis of MOX Fuels by Fuel Performance Code'' and ''Critical Heat Flux Experiments in Tight Lattice Core''. Then three lectures followed: ''Significance Assessment of Small-Medium Sized Reactors'' by The Japan Atomic Power Company, Innovative Reactor Development Strategy - focusing on Generation IV'' by The Institute of Applied Energy and ''Status of Phase II of Feasibility Studies on Commercialized Fast Breeder Reactor System'' by Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute and The Japan Atomic Power Company. This report includes the original papers presented at the workshop and summaries of the questions and answers for each lecture, as well as presentation handouts, program and participant list as appendixes.
