Iodine hydrolysis reactions; preliminary species identification and rate measurements

Creators

  • 1. UKAEA Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell. Chemistry Div.

Description

Curve-fitting techniques have been used with time-resolved spectra of aqueous iodine solutions to measure the parameters of absorption bonds in the electronic spectra of the solutions. Data were combined with a FACSIMILE computer model of the hydrolysis reactions to provide rate constants for the individual reactions. Measurements have been completed for a 2x10-6 M solution of iodine in pure water, and for similar solutions containing silver ions; a set of rate constants was derived which fits all these solutions.
