Safeguarding the disposal of Canada's used nuclear fuel

Two approaches are presented for applying nuclear material safeguards to the conceptual design of a Used-Fuel Disposal Centre that has been prepared for the Canadian Nuclear Fuel Waste Management Program. The first approach extends the established requirements and measures to this facility that are satisfactory for other types of nuclear facilities and operations in Canada. The second approach is based on the recommendations produced by an International Atomic Energy Agency initiative to develop requirements for applying safeguards specific to the disposal of used fuel in geological repositories
