The influence of laser radiation on surface of gamma-irradiated NaCl crystal

  • 1. AN RU, Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The influence of gamma radiation on optical hardness of sodium chloride crystal was investigated. For optical breakdown experiments the neodymium glass laser radiation was used. It was shown that gamma irradiation of NaCl crystal may increase its optical hardness. It was supposed that it was due to the coagulation of strongly absorbing micro-inhomogeneities thus decreasing the probability of optical breakdown. (A.A.D.)
