Relationship between levels of soluble carbohydrate and starch synthesis in detached ears of wheat

Creators

Description

Detached ears of wheat were cultured on solutions of sugars. 'A highly significant correlation was observed between the concentration of sucrose in the endosperm and the rate of starch synthesis. Fluctuations in the level of sucrose in the endosperm were accomp!1nied by parallel changes in the rate of starch synthesis. It is suggested that the concentration of sucrose in the endosperm regulates the rate of starch synthesis.
