Non-LTE temperatures in argon arcs at various pressures

  • 1. Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA (USA)

Description

Deviations from local thermal equilibrium (LTE) are examined in a 30 A, 3 mm dia., wall stabilized argon arc at pressures from 0.1 to 10 bar. Methods of analysis include emission spectroscopy of 6-9 optically thin and partially absorbed ArI lines, Stark broadening of Hβ for N/sub e/ via the 2-λ interferometer scale, generalized multithermal equilibrium (GMTE), and the electron energy equation
