Alignment, polarization, and magnitude of fragment angular momenta in deeply inelastic collisions

Description

The angular momentum appearing in the products of quasi-and deeply inelastic collisions is reviewed. Both the magnitude and the orientation of the angular momentum are considered. After a brief review of what is known about quasi-and deeply inelastic collisions, the subject is treated under the following topics: asymptotic limits for the magnitude and orientation of transferred angular momentum, information deduced from gamma ray measurements (gamma multiplicities, angular correlations for gamma rays, circular polarization of gamma rays), and sequential fission measurements of angular momentum transfer. The report ends with some suggestions as to possible applications of deeply inelastic collisions to the study of nuclei with high spin. 12 figures
