Radioactivity in cooling water of Musashi reactor 'TRIGA II'

Description
Radioactivity in the cooling water of Musashi Reactor (TRIGA II) was investigated. The radionuclides were collected by the ion exchange resin bed and determined by use of a Ge(Li) γ-ray spectrometer. The cation nuclides such as 60Co, 65Zn, 140Ba and 140La were collected with the cation exchange resin bed, while the nuclides such as 131I, 132Te, 132I and 99mTc were found in the anion exchange resin bed. The origin of these nuclides were discussed based on the profiles of decay and/or buildup of their radioactivities and the amount of contaminant U in Al material used in the core. (author)

原子炉1次冷却水中放射能については、放射線安全や原子炉燃料の健全性確認の観点から、かなり広く調査されでおり、1次冷却水(以下炉水)を直接γ線検出器により測定する等の放射能チェックの作業は、各機関において日常的に行われている。武蔵工業大学炉(武蔵工大炉)の場合、このような方法では24Na、99mTc等2,3の核種が検出されるのみで、例えば核分裂生成核種131I等は検出できない。そこでこのような極めて濃度の低い核種を検出、測定するために、陽イオン交換樹脂および陰イオン交換樹脂を充填した吸着ベットを用いて、炉水中放射性核種を濃縮捕集した。捕集された試料についでは、Ge(Li)検出器により核種の同定と放射能の測定を行い、検出された核種の炉水中での挙動について検討した。また検出された核分裂生成核種については、炉心に用いられているAl中の痕跡U量を仮定し、発生源について考察することにした。 (著者)Additional details
