Near-Surface Test Facility Phase 2 site characterization report

Description

This report is a description of the geology and characterization of the rock mass of the area in which the Phase II qualification tests at the Near-Surface Test Facility were to be performed. The Near- Surface Test Facility is located on Gable Mountain within the Hanford Site near Richland, Washington. It is located in the Pomona Member, an upper flow in the Columbia River Basalt Group, and is approximately 150 feet (47.5 m) below the surface. Core logging from the instrument boreholes coupled with joint mapping, statistics, and other test data provided the basis for a detailed characterization of the rock masses. All references to and descriptions of Phase II testing are not valid due to the cancellation of Phase II after the completion of this report. 13 refs., 51 figs., 13 tabs
