Mass transport into a three-component composite subjected to a temperature gradient
Description
This chapter attempts to: set up a theoretical model which describes the concentration profiles which develops in a three-component composite as a general function of all the relevant variables, viz component thickness, time, diffusion/ thermal properties of individual components, and the boundary conditions (concentrations, temperatures); and utilize the model for studying the transport of water vapor through a three-component composite, with the aim of assessing aspects such as when and where phase precipitation is likely to occur and the rate of penetrant accumulation with respect to arrangement of the components. Presents a composite consisting of a slab with three-components each of which is characterized by a diffusion coefficient, thermal conductivity and interfaces
