Control rod assembly examination program

  • 1. Nuclear Power Systems, Combustion Engineering, Inc. Windsor, CT

Description

Duke Power's Oconee control rod exam program is intended to assess the condition of full length control rod assemblies and part length axial power shaping rod assemblies which are nearing their design lifetime. Data from the program is used to help develop a lifetime model for the CRAs which will allow maximum usage of the original control rods. The Oconee examination program is now a part of the Electric Power Research Institute's project to define the life limiting mechanisms for stainless clad Ag-In-Cd PWR control rods. The 1984 exams were funded in part by EPRI, and contractual agreements exist for up to two more exams
