Radon - A toolbox to implement local actions to raise awareness

Description

As the radon risk is not well known by the public, a strategy has been developed for information and awareness raising among the population and concerned professional actors. After a recall of the origin of radon and of the associated health risk, an overview of actions undertaken by public authorities, and a discussion of the right scale of action for awareness of this risk, this guide presents a methodology of elaboration of an action to raise awareness of the radon risk. It proposes a practical support to implement these actions. In this respect, a toolbox is proposed, which comprises different aspects: partnerships, retro-planning, declaration to the CNIL, communication supports, FAQs, radon measurement and sensor providers, questionnaire to characterise the building, building venting, typical measurement report, building protection against radon, example of post-action questionnaire, quantitative indicators to assess an action. Examples of local actions in towns and districts are presented, as well as other actions among professionals and public.
