Total body studies in normal British women using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry

Description
The authors report dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) studies of total body bone mineral and body composition performed in 111 normal caucasian women (aged 42-61). Significant correlations were found between total body bone mineral density (BMD) and BMD in the lumbar spine (r = 0.76) and femoral neck (r 0.72). They present reference range data for BMD in the total body and in seven subregions of the skeleton. Multiple linear regressions of total body BMD and BMC on weight, height and age showed the inclusion of height compared with weight and age alone was not statistically significant. (Author)
