The Cigeo project: a profound lack of trust
Creators
Description
After several months of public debate about the Cigeo project (project of deep geological reversible storage of radioactive wastes), a report has been published. This article comments the content of this report, and notably outlines the lack of trust in this project. Industrial representatives and some local authorities state that this storage of hazardous materials must be performed as quickly as possible, but are however not so positive regarding how safety problems are solved and how information transparency is guaranteed. Other actors, notably the population and ecologists are fiercely opposed to the project. Besides, some technical and technological issues are still to be solved. There is still a strong uncertainty about what is to be left to the future generations
