Axial myocardial emission tomography
Description
Myocardial scintigraphy with 201thallium chloride is normally carried through as planar scintigraphy in different projections. The presentation of the activity distribution in the myocard is, however, rather limited as fas as the resolution and topographic attribution of a finding are concerned. This difficulty can be by-passed by means of scintigraphy in sectional image technique (emission computed tomography). In ECT the detector of the gamma camera rotates around the longitudinal axis of the body. The most useful geometrical line of reference for sectional images of the heart is the cardial axis itself. Furthermore a measure to increase the impulse yield of of 201thallium scintigraphy with the aid of a second energy window for the primary gamma radiation of thallium is dealt with. (BWU)
Abstract (German)
Die Myokardszintigraphie mit 201Thalliumchlorid wird in der Regel als planare Szintigraphy in verschiedenen Projektionen durchgefuehrt. Der Darstellung der Aktivitaetsverteilung im Myokard sind hierbei allerdings relativ enge Grenzen gesetzt, was die Aufloesung und topographische Zuordnung eines Befundes betrifft. Diese Schwierigkeit kann durch die Szintigraphie in Schnittbildtechnik (Emissionscomputertomographie) umgangen werden. Bei der ECT rotiert der Detektor der Gammakamera um die Koerperlaengsachse. Der sinnvollste geometrische Bezug bei Schnittbildern des Herzens ist die Herzachse selbst. Ferner wird auf eine Massnahme zur Erhoehung der Impulsausbeute der 201Thalliumszintigraphie mit Hilfe eines zweiten Energiefensters fuer die primaere Gammastrahlung des Thalliums eingegangen.
