Characteristics of hodoscopic spectromagnetic calorimeter from lead glass with 2 m2 aperture

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

Cherenkov lead-glass-base electromagnetic calorimeter, comprising a shower hodoscopic detector with 10x10 cm dimension cell (189 elements) and active converter with the thickness of 4 radiation lengths (19 elements), mounted in front of it, is described. The detector energy resolution of ∼ 0.08/√E (E is measured in gigaelectronvolts), the accuracy of reconstructing coordinates of γ-quanta and electrons (positrons) of ∼ 10 mm, the level of discrimination of signals from hadrons of ∼ 2x10-3 are measured under irradiation in beams of positrons and π+-mesons with 3 and 5 GeV energies
