Suggestion for the nuclear start-up of the modular pebble-bed HTR

  • 1. Kernforschungsanlage Juelich G.m.b.H. (Germany, F.R.). Inst. fuer Reaktorentwicklung

Description

Research on the initial core and the running-in period of a 200 MW-th modular pebble-bed reactor is presented. An alternate path for the start-up of the reactor without use of any burnable poisons is described. Two different procedures for the transition from the start-up phase to the equilibrium operation are investigated and compared. The afterheat production and the inherent safety characteristics of the reactor core in case of a loss-of-coolant accident are shown
