Magnetic susceptibility, electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power of Nd2(MoO4)3

  • 1. Gorakhpur Univ. (India). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

The results of measurements of molar magnetic susceptibility (chisub(m)) of a powdered sample of neodymium molybdate have been reported in the temperature range 305-800 K. The electrical conductivity (sigma) and thermoelectric power (β) on pressed solid pellets have also been measured in the temperature range 354-904 K and 90-5800C respectively. The molar magnetic susceptibility (chi) obeys the Curie-Weiss law with a Curie constant C= 2.35 K cmu/mole, paramagnetic Curie-temperature THETA = -25 K and the effective magnetic moment p = 3.24 Bohr magneton (μβ). The electrical conductivity data have been explained in terms of the usual band model and impurity levels. Thermoelectric power measurements have shown that Nd2(MoO4)3 is an n-type semiconductor.
