Description
X-ray fluorescence spectrometry is now one of the most powerful tools for quantitative elemental analysis as well as chemical state analysis of new materials. A complete theoretical understanding of the X-ray emission process still does not exist even after the century following the discovery of X-rays. The major motivation of this study is to clarify the origin of the chemical effects of X-ray emission lines so as to better utilize these chemical effects for chemical state analysis or characterization. The origins of the chemical effects on the XRF satellites of Sc are discussed and a systematic study on the chemical shifts of Sc Kα1 and Kβ1.3 lines of scandium metal and various scandium compounds is presented.
