Synchrotron radiation (Harima): Development of technology for using synchrotron X-ray radiation; From the challenges of the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology

Description

The National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) has two dedicated beamlines and multiple dedicated devices in the large synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8, and is developing synchrotron radiation utilization technology and conducting research using these devices. This paper introduces part of the development at the synchrotron radiation facility by choosing from the challenges of QST. The selected topics from the field of X-ray spectroscopy are as follow; (1) Discovery of X-ray magnetic circularly polarized emission and its application to magnetic materials, (2) Method for measuring high-energy resolution fluorescence detection X-ray absorption spectra (HERFD-XAS), and (3) Elucidation of the surface magnetism of iron at the atomic layer level based on synchrotron radiation Moessbauer spectroscopy.
