Some remarks on the physics and chemistry of actinides

  • 1. Polska Akademia Nauk, Wroclaw. Inst. Niskich Temperatur i Badan Strukturalnych

Description

A brief historical outline of the development of the actinide concept is given. The electronic structure of the actinides, compared to that in the lanthanides, and its relation with the chemical and physical properties of their ionic and intermetallic compounds is considered. The importance of the production and application of atomic energy and its by-products in the development of the actinide research is also taken into account. Some interesting results obtained during the last years for several actinide compounds are reviewed. (author)
