Description

Location of leakages in large hydraulic plants and water reservoirs is of great importance for both the safety and economy of their operation. Various water reservoirs used in hydraulic engineering need the adoption of specific investigation methods. In this paper a number of variants of the radiotracer method developed at the Department of Nuclear Methods in Process Engineering of the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology is presented. They are intended to detect and locate leakages in water reservoirs, as well as dams and embankments. The radioisotopes 198 Au and 113mIn used for this purpose show excellent sorption characteristics in typical materials used for their construction. The new method of quantitative evaluation of localized leakages was recently worked out and successfully tested in the laboratory in a large-scale flume. (author). 8 refs, 11 figs, 1 tab
