Description

Steel samples were prestressed to various degrees of deformation, and the differences in the corrosion characteristics of the steel exposed to an Na-NaOH mixture at 487 degC were evaluated. The relation of these differences and the corrosion behavior during rinsing with deactivating solutions were also investigated. Metallographic examination of the samples revealed that corrosion in deactivating solutions affects primarily alpha martensite which forms due to the corrosion in sodium and to the deformation, and also elongated formations of the sigma phase on the surface of the samples formed due to high-temperature exposure.
