Italian – Russian Cooperation Agreement for Global Partnership: Updated status of the main projects achieved results and critical issues. Agenda item 1.05 (Presentation in Russian)

The report provides information on the Italian nuclear legacy assistance programme in Russia in 2012. Italy had constructed and delivered a special ship for transportation of submarine spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste in North-West Russia. Another key area of joint efforts was the defueling and dismantlement of five decommissioned nuclear submarines and the provision of new dismantling equipment. Italy was negotiating the dismantlement of the sixth nuclear submarine. A new project for the construction of a pontoon for relocation of submarine defueled reactor compartments was started. Italy was working on the design and construction of facilities for management of liquid and solid radioactive waste at Andreeva Bay (a former navy base in North-West Russia). Two new buildings for safe storage of legacy radioactive waste had been completed in 2012. Other projects included physical protection of shipyards and manufacturing casks for spent nuclear fuel.
