Nuclear power: An evolving scenario

This opening speech discusses the evolving global scenario for nuclear power and the IAEA role in meeting key related challenges. Specific attention is paid to issues related to life cycle management. We live in an era in which the global community faces many difficult social and economic issues. Against this backdrop, the scenario for nuclear power continues to evolve - in terms of both its current status and its future potential. Life cycle management issues, related to licence extension and decommissioning, will be important areas of focus for the near term. The aim of this conference was to provide important insights on how to move forward in helping the Member States to address these issues efficiently
