Radiosynoviorthesis in haemaphilic joint disease

Description
The effects of radiosynoviorthesis on chronic haemophilic arthropathic joints were studied in six patients with severe haemophilia by a follow up study which spanned two and a half years. On clinical grounds the treatment was successful because pain and bleeding frequency diminished, although radiographic examination showed further deterioration of the treated joint. Chromosome damage was not detected. We conclude that radiosynoviorthesis is apparently changing the bleeding pattern of articular tissues without arresting the destruction and deformation of joints. Abstract (German)
Die Wirkungen der Radiosynoviorthese auf chronische haemophile Gelenkerkrankungen wurden bei 6 Patienten mit schwerer Haemophilie in einer Langzeitstudie ueber 2 1/2 Jahre untersucht. Klinisch gesehen war die Behandlung erfolgreich, weil Schmerzen und Haeufigkeit der Blutungen zurueckgingen, obwohl die Roentgenuntersuchung weitere Zerstoerung der behandelten Gelenke zeigte. Schaedigung von Chromosomen wurde nicht festgestellt. Die Autoren schliessen daraus, dass die Radiosynoviorthese offensichtlich das Blutungsbild des Gelenkgewebes veraendert, ohne die Zerstoerung und Verformung der Gelenke aufzuhalten.
