Reviving our Home Land. Special edition for the 30^th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe

26 April 1986 is the day when the most terrible man-made disaster in the history of humanity - accident at the Chernobyl NPP happened. The Republic of Belarus took the main blow of the catastrophe. Accident mitigation, consequences overcoming, reviving the affected territories are the essential achievements that prove the heroic work that Belarus made. This year Belarus commemorate the 30th anniversary of this way. How did a small country managed to cope with such devastating consequences of this catastrophe? The special edition of the journal "Reviving Our Homeland" describes all the stages of difficult way that Belarus has overcome during the last 30 years. It all started with confusion when people did not want to believe that such tragedy had happened; then people started to realize the fact and the scale of the catastrophe; after that they recognized their land as a zone of ecological disaster and asked the world community for assistance and support and on December 21, 1990 the first UN Chernobyl resolution was adopted; and it all led to environment and human protection problems solving; targeted State and Union Programs on overcoming the consequences of the catastrophe developing; and, finally, to the stage of rehabilitation and revival, social and economic development of the affected areas; returning of the lands previously withdrawn from agricultural production; development of international cooperation as an expert in overcoming the consequences of the radiation catastrophe.
