The results of radiotherapy for glottic cancer treatment

The authors have analyzed the results of radiotherapy in 119 patients treated for squamous cell carcinoma of the glottic larynx at the Sapporo National Hospital between 1974 and 1988. The majority of patients received 2.5 Gy in four weekly fractions. The overall 5-year cause-specific survival rate and local control rate amounted to 95.5% and 80.5%, respectively. The 5-year local control rates for T1a, T1b, T2, and T3 lesions were 90.7%, 88.9%, 68%, and 72.7%, respectively. Patients with T3 lesions who were found to be sensitive to radiotherapy had received a total of 65 Gy, and the most patients were cured without total laryngectomy. (author)
