A study of human rickets using Ca47

Creators

Description

Rickets is a very common disease amongst coloured children in the Cape Peninsula area of South Africa. A radiotracer study of calcium metabolism was undertaken to shed light on causative factors (e.g. dietary) as well as on the mode of action of vitamin D. The results appear to provide good evidence for a direct action of vitamin D on bone, but the number of patients studied so far is small. 2 figs, 3 tabs
