The distance scale of planetary nebulae

Creators

  • 1. Massachusetts Inst. of Tech., Cambridge (USA)

Description

The author shows that at least for optically thin nebulae, it is potentially possible to derive accurate distances (+- 10%). All that is needed is a careful calibration of the scale. Though not available at present, several possibilities for better calibrations exist. Recommendations are made by the author to bridge this gap. (U.M.G.)
