Electromagnetic mass differences of the old and the charmed mesons

Description

We predict for the mass difference of rho+ and rho0 the values -3.4 +- 0.8 MeV and -3.8 +- 1.2 MeV using the rho-ω mixing and the quark model, respectively. The extracted parameters indicate the necessity of a relativistic treatment of the old mesons. The problem of extrapolating these parameters to the charmed mesons is discussed. Under conservative assumptions, we predict for the D+ and D0 and D*+ and D*0 mass difference a value between 1.7 and 2.2 MeV and -1.4 +- 1.1 and 0 +- 0.6 MeV, respectively. (orig./BJ)

Abstract (German)

Unter Anwendung der rho-ω Mischung und des Quark-Modells werden fuer die Massendifferenz rho+ minus rho0 die Werte -3,4 +- 0,8 MeV bzw. -3,8 +- 1,2 MeV vorausgesagt. Die gewonnenen Parameter weisen auf die Notwendigkeit einer relativistischen Behandlung der alten Mesonen hin. Das Problem, diese Parameter auf die Mesonen mit Charm zu extrapolieren, wird diskutiert. Unter konservativen Annahmen sagen wir fuer die jeweiligen Massendifferenzen zwischen den Mesonen D+ und D0, D*+, D*0 die Werte 1,7 bis 2,2, -1,4 +- 1,1 bis 0 +- 0,6 MeV voraus. (orig./BJ)
