Prognostic significance of pretreatment 68Ga-dotanoc positron emission tomography/ computed tomography in paediatric neuroblastoma

Description
Neuroblastoma, a neural crest cell derived tumor, is a common malignancy in childhood. It is a heterogeneous disease with several factors known to affect treatment and survival outcomes. Expression of somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) in neuroblastoma allows positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging with 68Ga labelled somatostatin analogues and detection of metastatic burden. The present study was conducted to evaluate the prognostic role of 68Ga - DOTANOC PET/CT in paediatric neuroblastoma and compare it with other known risk factors. 68Ga - DOTANOC PET/CT assisted in metastatic work up and risk stratification of patients with neuroblastoma, thereby making it a non-invasive and cost-effective biomarker in this setting. It also has therapeutic implications with regard to selection of patients for Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy
