Prospective uses of superconductors for 50/60 hertz applications
Description
Due to technological progress over the last ten years, manufacturing long lengths of NbTi ultra-fine filamentary wires with greatly reduced 50-60 hertz losses has been achieved. The prospective industrial applications based on these wires for large superconducting 50-60 hertz equipment heralds the promise of a technological revolution in electrotechnology and probably also in high power electronics. In this paper, the authors present the ''state of the art'' picture for NbTi ultra-fine filamentary wires and the main world-wide results on design and test machines where they have been employed. For example, transformers, rectifiers, superconducting ac generator complexes, fault current limiters, power filters, and so on
