Mechanisms for the creation of H2+, H3+, D2+ and D3+ ions in the course of the interaction (He*[23S, 21S], Ne* [3P0, 3P2])-(H2, D2) from the study of the kinetic energy

Description

We have measured the kinetic energy of the ions H2+, D2+, H3+ and D3+ produced by the collision of helium on metastable neon, on molecular hydrogen or on deuterium: from measurements on H2+ and D2+ it has been possible to confirm the existence of a two-step Penning collision, the second step being a transfer from vibrational to kinetic energy. The measurement of the kinetic energy of H3+ and D3+ leads us to conjecture that a certain amount of (H2)2 and (D2)2 dimers is present in the target

Abstract (French)

Nous avons etudie l'energie cinetique des ions H2+, D2+, H3+ et D3+ crees lors d'une collision helium ou neon metastable sur une cible d'hydrogene ou de deuterium moleculaire. L'etude des ions H2+ et D2+ a permis de confirmer l'existence d'une collision de Penning en deux etapes, la deuxieme etape mettant en jeu un transfert d'energie vibrationnelle en energie cinetique. L'etude de l'energie des ions H3+ et D3+ nous conduit a avancer l'hypothese de la formation dans nos conditions experimentales d'une certane quantite de dimeres (H2)2 et (D2)2
