Description
The accelerator complex consists of an MeV machine and a 200 keV ion implanter arranged so that both can beam particles simultaneously into any one of three scattering chambers which can be maintained at 10-6, 10-7 and 10-8 respectively. Specimen mounting facilities include hot stages, a precision goniometer with a resolution of 0.005 degrees and a carosel for multiple specimen irradiation. A stabilizing slit system and amplifier capable of controlling beams from 1nA to 1mA and extremely stable beam steering and machine control systems are described. The ion source is controlled by a multiplexed optical/talemetry link to the high tension bun. The gas pressure in the source is accurately controlled by a new design of pulsed leak which enables the type of gas to be change from the control room. All of these systems were designed and built in this laboratory and represent a significant advance over most commercially available systems. (author)
