A comparative study of avian and ovian radioimmunoassay systems for estimation of serum luteinizing hormone in domestic hens

In absence of a purified chicken LH for a homologous radioimmunoassay (RIA) to measure circulating LH levels in domestic fowls, an ovine LH radioimmunoassay system was used. Later when purified chicken LH and its antisera was made available, few serum samples from White Leghorn layers were assayed by both ovine and avian RIA systems. A good agreement between the homologous and heterologous RIA estimates after application of a conversion factor to the results obtained by ovine assay system, confirmed the views of using ovine RIA system for avian serum LH determination.
