Diagnostic value of CT-angiography (CTA, CTAP) for small hepatocellular carcinoma

Description

The diagnostic value of CT-angiography for small liver cancers (smaller than 20 mm, diagnosed histopathologically) was compared to those of ultrasonography (US), helical-CT, MRI and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The study involved 6 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and evaluated a total of 12 HCC nodules: 10 well-differentiated nodules, 1 mixed well- and moderately-differentiated, and 1 poorly-differentiated. CT-angiography detected 100% of the HCC nodules. This was significantly better than the detection rates for US (50%), helical-CT (8%), MRI (58%), and DSA (17%). (author)
