This document is intended as a guide for users faced with having to choose the most suitable radioprotection equipment, dosemeters or dose rate meters (personnel or area monitors) for a specific purpose. It draws the user's attention to the factors that must be considered before a choice can be made. A survey of radiological characteristics and parameters related to the conditions for which devices for the detection of external radiation are required is given. (author)
