Development of nuclear power has led to it being a major generator of electricity in the United States. However, no new plants have been ordered for over a decade. This paper addresses whether nuclear power is likely to remain important, whether any new designs offer features that can change the current status of the industry, and what would be necessary for new nuclear plants to be ordered.
