Radiation protection - substitution of I-131 by I-123

Description
In many cases, the use of 131I in thyroid diagnostics leads to increased patient and environmental exposure which may be avoided by using more short-lived isotopes, e.g. 123I or sup(99m)Tc. These isotopes should therefore be preferred if possible. (AJ)
Abstract (German)
Der Einsatz von Jod-131 zur Schilddruesendiagnostik fuehrt zu einer in vielen Faellen erhoehten Strahlenbelastung der Patienten und der Umwelt, die durch den Einsatz kurzlebigerer Isotope wie 123J oder sup(99m)Tc gesenkt werden kann. Dem Einsatz dieser Isotope ist deshalb, wenn moeglich, der Vorzug zu geben. (AJ)Additional details
