CT diagnosis of ovarian thecoma

Description

Objective: To analyze CT characteristics of ovarian thecoma and improve diagnostic level for it. Methods: CT findings of ovarian thecomas in 12 cases proved by surgery and pathology were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The tumor markers of all patients were normal except the CA125 raised in two patients. The estrogen series were examed in three patients, and two patients were abnormal with rising of the estrogen and prolactin. A little ascites appeared in 4 cases, bilateral pleural effusion appeared in 1. The tumors located at right side in 7, left side in 5. Of the 12 tumors, 8 were nearly round or elliptic solid masses with distinct boundary, 4 were multilobular in shape with clear border, and the density of tumors was same as myometrium. There were schistose low density areas in 3 cases. The tumors were enhanced slightly and gradually from parenchyma phase to delay phase after contrast medium injection. There were patch non-enhancement area scattered in three larger tumors after contrast medium injection. Conclusion: The ovarian thecoma posses specific CT characteristic manifestation and thus CT provide as a valuable diagnostic measure. (authors)
