Noise properties of an atom laser
Description
Full text: We describe a one dimensional CW atom laser using coupled Gross-Pitaevskii type equations with gain and loss. Our model incorporates continuous Raman outcoupling and a phenomenological pump mechanism. We demonstrate that atom-atom interactions and three-body recombination effects are essential to producing continuous and sustainable operation and proceed to show a laser-like reduction of the intensity fluctuations in the output field with increased pumping. The extension of this model to three dimensions will be discussed
