A radiotracer study of the kinetics of ion exchange reaction, RI + Isup(*-) reversible RIsup(*)+ I-
Description
The kinetics of the ion exchange reaction RI + Isup(*-) reversible RIsup(*) + I- in the strongly basic anion exchanger Tulsion A-27, has been studied using radioactive isotope tracer technique. The specific reaction rate at 25.0 deg C and the energy of activation are found to be 0.126 min-1 and 11.9 kj mole-1 respectively. The rate of ion exchange is observed to vary linearly with the square-root of the iodide ion concentration. This result is confirmed by considering the ion exchange reaction, under study, as an isotope exchange reaction. (author)
