Description
Toshiba has supplied about 130 condensers for thermal and nuclear power plants in Japan. Titanium or Al-brass is applied for these condenser tubes. Recently it has been found that the tubes of some condensers after 40,000-50,000 hours of service are eroded at the steam side due to droplet impingement. This phenomenon is widely known as water droplet erosion. This paper deals with the condition of condenser tubes suffering from droplet erosion, erosion tests using water droplets, cavitation erosion tests, computation of steam velocity distribution and droplet impact velocity in actual condensers, and protection against condenser tube droplet erosion
