Inclusive π/sup o/ and non-strange meson production in νN interactions

Description

Inclusive π0 production in neutrino-nucleon charged-current interactions is studied using a sample of events obtained from the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber filled with a moderate Neon-Hydrogen mixture. Neutral pion distributions in the hadronic variables x/sub F/, z, and rho/sub T/ are determined and shown to be similar to the corresponding charged pion distributions. The π0 z distribution is also compared to π0 results from other lepton induced interactions. These results give support to the apparent scaling violation observed in the higher energy e/sup +/e/sup -/ annihilation results. π0's are also reconstructed individually and used to study non-strange resonance production. Inclusive event rates (with cuts) for the rho0, rho/sup +/, rho/sup -/, ω, and eta mesons derived from this experiment are 0.25 +-0.03, 0.52 +- 0.11, 0.30 +- 0.08, 0.24 +- 0.07, and 0.19 +-0.06 respectively. The rho0 z distribution for z > 0.2 is also presented and found to be consistent with other lepton scattering experiments
